We get our greedy, land-grabbing hands on an early version of the next Civilization game, and we'll be right with you as soon as we just take one more turn. The classic Civilization turn-based strategy series has been the pride and joy of Hunt Valley, Maryland-based Firaxis studio for years and is also apparently the pride and joy of the state of Maryland since that state's governor recently declared that the game's upcoming release date of September 21 will officially be "Civilization V day." The frighteningly habit-forming series has challenged armchair dictators for years to play as one of world history's greatest leaders (such as George Washington of America or Catherine II of Russia) and "build an empire to stand the test of time." Redemption's first paid-for DLC pack adds nine multiplayer maps, eight characters, and the deadly tomahawk. Legends and Killers is Red Dead Redemption's first instalment of paid-for downloadable content, part of the four-pack of DLC outlined by Rockstar in early July. In contrast to June's free Outlaws to the End DLC, which focused on cooperative missions, Legends and Killers is entirely about multiplayer; the pack comprises nine multiplayer maps, eight multiplayer characters, and the tomahawk throwing weapon. We go back to the beginning in this prequel to the original Kingdom Hearts. Before Roxas and even Sora, there was Ventus, a young boy with spiky blonde hair who looked--let's face it--just like Roxas. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep takes place 10 years before the events of the original Kingdom Hearts, where Sora was chosen by his keyblade to rid the world of darkness. Birth by Sleep tells the story of three characters, Aqua, Terra and Ventus, who are a trio of friends training to become keyblade masters of their own. While fans have been eagerly waiting for word on Kingdom Hearts 3, it looks like for now, we're going to have to go back in history to see how it all began. Game Spot Previews

We take a good long spin through some of the multiplayer-focused additions to DJ Hero 2. Last year's DJ Hero was a rather pleasant surprise. While it felt as though the game was released at the absolute apex of Activision's music game outpouring--2009 was the year that brought us the likes of Guitar Hero: Smash Hits and Band Hero, after all--DJ Hero proved to be a fresh, fun take on the art of making music in your living room. Much of that was thanks to the capabilities of the new turntable controller, but at the same time, it was clear from the game's soundtrack of original mash-ups that developer FreeStyle Games is a studio with no shortage of creative talent. Now, despite lingering questions of how commercially successful DJ Hero proved to be in light of that initially pricey turntable bundle, we're happy to see that FreeStyle has been given the green light to develop a sequel. We embrace our inner geek and stroll through the mean streets of Toronto beating up baddies in the name of love. If you don’t know who Scott Pilgrim is and why everybody’s fawning over him like he’s Edward Cullen, then this brutally short summary should clear some things up: Scott Pilgrim is a 20-something unemployed dweeb/bass player from Toronto who finds true love in the shape of Ramona Flowers, a sarcastic punk with an affinity for brightly coloured hair. However, to win Ms Flowers' heart, Scott must first battle her seven evil exes (and win, obviously). If you’re still stuck on that part about Edward Cullen, you should probably stop reading and go outside for a while Game Spot Previews

Xbox 360 | Halo: Reach Campaign Hands-On |

After playing through three of Reach's campaign missions, we walk away with a different picture than what we've seen before. So much of the discussion around Halo: Reach has been focused on the darkness of the game. We've seen trailers depicting weary-eyed Spartans amidst a muted gray color palette. We've pulled off bloody stealth executions in the multiplayer beta. Go on and take your pick--there's no shortage of indications that Reach will be a grimmer experience than previous Halos. But if there's one thing we came away with after a recent hands-on outing with a few of the game's early campaign missions, it's that Reach--while certainly dark in many respects--isn't all doom and gloom.
